Garden Bloggers Bloom Day - November 2013

Japanese garden with Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Inaba shidare' - red foliage, evergreens ,Yucca  and Acer palmatum var. dissectum "Viridis"-  orange foliage

The fall colors had been amazing this year in Northeast Ohio, USDA Plant Hardiness zone 5b.  The temperatures had dropped bellow 32F a couple of times this month and we even had a day of snow.

We are fighting lots of leaves that had fallen as in previous years. There were still some blooms left in November garden to my surprise. Most pictures that follow were taken between November 4 and November 11.

    1. Thanks Janie! Happy GBBD to you as welll! I got the second acer this spring when I enlarged a front bed. I was thinking that I made a mistake getting the green one, but once the foliage changed to orange I no longer thought so!

    2. Gotta' admit my jaw dropped at reading you've already had a few temperature drops under zero...now that's cold in anybody's book. Your pictures are wonderful... but that seems to be a habit with you!
Have you tried a sedum called 'Lemon Ball'. It looks almost identical to 'Angelina' except it keeps its chartreusey color through the winter. I love them both.

    3. Sorry Michaele..I meant bellow zero Celsius which is bellow 32 F. This is an error due to my European descent and education. I have not seen the sedum "Lemon Ball" around here. I will keep an eye for it!

  2. Hello! I enjoyed seeing your lovely photos. I would love to find space for Japanese maple or two in my yard. They have a good-looking shape, and the fall colors are just stunning! Happy Bloom Day!
