Sharing with I'd rather be birding , Wild Bird Wednesday blogs where magnificent pictures of birds are being shared.
This is a hawk I'm not familiar with. I don't think it's a Sharpie but I'm not familiar with molts etc in your area. This beauty looks different.
ReplyDeletemaybe a Red-shouldered Hawk? I've only seen one in my life....but possibly?
DeleteFor me, hawks are a very difficult bird to ID. So many similarities...especially if you don't know the hawk family all that well...and that's ME. It takes days for me to know for sure. And THEN I'm not 100% sure. LOL
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images, none-the-less.
It's hard to say, but maybe a Sharpie. It's a beautiful hawk, and you got great shots!
ReplyDeleteI am not the best with Hawk id's! It could the Red-shouldered. Great sighting and photos.
ReplyDeletei'd guess red-shouldered. love these beauties.
ReplyDeleteVery cool...that had to be a thrill to see him so well.
ReplyDeleteDunno which hawk is which when they're so close in markings. All I know for sure is the white tailed hawk. Sorry I couldn't help.
ReplyDeleteI have a similar hawk on my day4plus blog. I think it is a sharp shinned but not positive. MB
ReplyDeleteThanks to all who commented on this post and try to help identify this hawk! I really appreciate it!

:) my blog gets it's name from these beauties, most assuredly a Red-Shouldered Hawk and did you know their voice is just about the loudest of all raptors in NA. What a great treat you got in seeing them so close, and mating season is upon us too~
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary! I found your blog very late last night! I learned a lot in a couple of days since I posted these! I think these hawks live here very close by all year long. Several times I noticed that there are two of them..so probably a couple starting their honeymoon.
